Welcome to the Saint Augustine Community Chorus
during the March 15 and 16 concert will be "God's
Trombones", a musical setting of sermons provide the
focus for the first half of the program. Patric Robinson
and Dr. Dorothy Israel will narrate this work which
includes two prayers, the Creation narrative and Go
Down, Death. The concert program will also portray the
story of events in St. Augustine leading up to this
historic legislation 50 years ago, including songs that
were sung by the brave Foot Soldiers during their
marches and sit-ins. There will be interpretive dance
and music by Scott Joplin, Moses Hogan and William
Dawson will be sung by the chorus.
second half of the concert includes songs from "Ain't
Misbehavin'", music by Duke Ellington and highlights
from "Porgy and Bess". The featured guest soloists
include St. Augustine's own Jamilia Wells, Soprano, Mani
Cadet, Tenor, and Patric Robinson, Baritone.
concluding concert for the chorus of the 2013-2014
Season will be "Two French Masterworks", under the
direction of Dr. Theodore K. Mathews. This will be Dr.
Mathews last concert as a Community Chorus Director and
his program, which features both Gabriel Faure's
Requiem and Maurice Durufle's Requiem, will take place
on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Cathedral Basilica during
the final day of the 2014 Romanza Festivale.
